Chapter 506: Chapter 506 - 500: Will Jing Jihan Make It Through This Time...
When they left the 4S shop, it was already past two in the morning.
The cold wind in the capital was biting.
Shi Su pulled up the scarf over her neck, covering most of her face. The car parked outside was the one called by Yi City’s company.
Both of their cars went through system diagnostics and such in the shop, which would take at least five days before they could be retrieved.
After getting in the car, Shi Su gave the driver the address of the Shi Family. As Yi City sat in the car, he heard she was going back to the Shi Family and turned his eyes towards her.
Shi Su, however, turned her face away, looking out the car window, not wanting to speak.
Yi City knew she didn’t want to get too close to him, so he maintained a polite distance between them and said next to her, "I told you everything firstly because I feel guilty towards you, secondly out of selfishness, and thirdly in the hope that you can understand all the reasons, live well in the present, and not get caught up in the grudges between the older generations back then."
Shi Su remained silent the whole way, her face buried in her scarf, until the car arrived at the Shi Family’s door where she got out.
Yi City got out of the car and escorted her to the door. As they stood in front of the entrance, he suddenly called out, "Susu."
Shi Su stopped in her tracks.
"I don’t know if Jing Jihan can make it through this time. If you need, I will stand by your side anytime."
Shi Su removed the scarf from her neck, breathing in the biting cold air of the night, and replied without turning her head, "I don’t need it."
After speaking, she walked straight inside, her figure disappearing into the snowy night in the courtyard in front of the Shi Family’s main entrance.
Yi City watched outside the door for a while.
Shi Su hadn’t changed.
These two years in the entertainment industry’s top-tier life were harrowing, full of traps. It seemed to have worn away her edges, but in fact, she had never changed. The hidden sharpness and principles before the camera, the resilience that once silently toppled Shi Yunyin and her mother for the sake of seeking justice for herself...
She was still the same her.
Except this time, she wasn’t rearmoring herself just for her own sake.
As expected, Shi Wancheng returned to the Shi Family the next day, entering in a low-profile manner, but everyone at home already knew.
Because they heard Mr. Shi had recently been able to occasionally sit in the wheelchair and come out to bask in the sun. After Shi Wancheng’s return, he met no one, going directly to look at the old man.
When Shi Wancheng came out of Mr. Shi’s room, he saw Shi Su already standing outside the door, although it was unclear when she had arrived.
Shi Su had just come out from her small villa. After returning last night, she took a bath and slept, for she had been awake for two days and participated in an exhausting competition program, also meeting Yi City at night, finally falling asleep as soon as she touched the bed.
But she also dreamed all night.
For more than twenty years, she only knew that Shi Lingkang had wronged her mother, just knowing that in the year her mother died, there wasn’t any family around, with no support. The only person she trusted, Shi Lingkang, also never gave her any extra compassion or sympathy up till the end.
But she had never thought about what circumstances Shi Lingkang and her mother met under over twenty years ago, nor why things ended up like that.
Last night, Yi City told her a story from over twenty years ago; in this bizarre dream, when she opened her eyes in the morning, a layer of fine sweat covered Shi Su’s forehead. As she sat up, she heard the servants outside the door say, her second uncle’s returned.
At this moment, Shi Su wore only a sweater underneath, her shoulder-length hair loosely draped over her shoulders, without makeup. She simply freshened up and came over, but even with a bare face, the look in her eyes when she gazed at Shi Wancheng outside the door was not gentle, following her mother’s natural beauty. Her eyebrows and eyes were beautiful and graceful. With her current expression, the coldness overflowed, making it impossible to ignore and also unavoidable.
In that instant, the relatives and servants around suddenly felt that Shi Su was the rightful lady of the house. When she stopped avoiding this responsibility, her aura could suppress all the unpredictable upheavals of people’s hearts in this old house.
Shi Wancheng closed the door to Mr. Shi’s room, his gaze flatly falling on Shi Su’s face. After a dozen seconds of eye contact, he gracefully offered her the courtesy a senior should give a junior, and knowingly asked, "When did you come back? How many days have you been staying at home?"
"I’ve been staying a few days but haven’t had much chance to see you, Uncle." Shi Su said with a shallow gaze, making it impossible to decipher her emotions, "But a few days ago while out for work, I had the fortune of meeting some leaders from Jingjian. They all spoke highly of you, Uncle."
Upon hearing the words "Jingjian leadership," Shi Wancheng initially said nothing. All the relatives and servants around were astute individuals. As soon as they sensed the seemingly calm but potentially explosive atmosphere between the uncle and niece, they discreetly withdrew.
Outside Mr. Shi’s room, only Shi Su and Shi Wancheng remained, along with a surveillance camera Shi Su specifically checked to ensure it was functioning properly.
Shi Wancheng nonchalantly glanced towards the corridor’s corner, then suddenly smiled, draping his removed coat casually over his arm. Even though he was in his fifties, having mingled in high society circles for many years, he maintained an air of gentlemanly elegance, which indeed Yi Dongyang never learned from his father. Otherwise, with the father and son uniting, how could Shi Lingkang carve out such a significant portion of the pie between them?
"Now that there aren’t many people here, the two of us uncle and niece might as well speak openly." Shi Wancheng looked at Shi Su, a trace of clear displeasure in his eyes, "Are you planning on resolving Dongyang’s matters in this way? He’s your cousin."
"Whether he’s my cousin or not is unimportant; after all, we didn’t grow up together. Attempted murder is the fact, and as the victim, providing evidence and handing him over to the police is also an act of self-defense. As to how the law judges, that’s not something I can interfere with." Shi Su appeared oblivious to the displeasure in Shi Wancheng’s eyes, continuing, "Strictly speaking, I should have informed you about this in advance, Uncle. But we’ve never really been close from childhood till now, that kinship feels almost nonexistent. Yi Dongyang wanted my life, and even for self-preservation, I couldn’t just let it slide privately. The law is always just; wouldn’t you agree?"
Shi Wancheng slowly smiled, "You’re using the law to pressure your Uncle?"
"No, just stating facts. Over the years, things have been strictly managed domestically; all departments have been diligent in their work efforts, and few dare to act out too boldly. I’m also quite curious about what kind of family environment fostered Yi Dongyang’s courage to do something so outrageous, daring even to act like a mafia. These days, even the leaders over at Jingjian have evidence to protect themselves; whenever corruption, bribery, or some unsavory deals occur, there will always be someone pushed out as a scapegoat. It’s just uncertain who’ll be the one pushed out."
Shi Wancheng couldn’t maintain the smile on his face any longer.
From Shi Su’s words, it was clear she knew things beyond just the superficial issues existing on this side of the capital.
After all, she was just a woman in her twenties; apart from being protected by Jing Jihan for a long time, where else did she acquire so much capability and connections?
"Did your father teach you to say this?"
Shi Su casually pushed the hair on her shoulders back and leisurely said, "If Shi Lingkang had that ability, would he need to be restrained by you? Uncle, you’ve spent over twenty years setting up a good chess game, finally enduring until the old man is about to pass away, why have you been unsettled recently?"
