Chapter 496: Chapter 496 - 490: Mr. Jing Risked His Life to Protect You

In the dim light just switched on from the bedside lamp, Shi Su looked towards the person by the bed, then glanced around the surroundings.

Although the environment was nice, and it didn’t look much different from a hotel, the smell of disinfectant in the air and the IV drip hanging by the bed clearly indicated this was a hospital room. It was just unclear which hospital’s VIP ward it was.

"Shi Yuan?" she spoke, but her voice was extremely hoarse, almost coming out as a raspy breath.

"It’s me, sister." After Shi Yuan waited for her to adjust to the brightness of the bedside light, she turned on the main light in the ward, letting her see more clearly, then came over to support her: "Do you want to sit up and drink some water?"

"Why are you here?" Shi Su asked hoarsely.

"The Shi Family knows that you and Mr. Jing had an accident, but Brother Lu Zhao didn’t let anyone into the hospital. It seems like the inside and outside of the hospital are under control, and others can’t get in. But because Brother Lu Zhao’s side is all men, inconvenient for taking care of you, they allowed me to come in." While speaking, Shi Yuan poured a cup of hot water, thoughtfully mixed with some cold, lest it burn Shi Su, and brought it to her lips: "Sister, drink some first. You’ve been unconscious for two days and haven’t had any water. Drink a bit before speaking."

Memories before she fainted surged back, and Shi Su looked toward the direction of the ward door, wondering if there was someone guarding outside.

Shi Yuan said that inside and outside the hospital were all Lu Zhao’s people, but in fact, they were all Jing Jihan’s people.

The Shi Family coming in at such a time was like a fox paying New Year’s visit to a hen; they harbored no good intentions, and now she really wasn’t in the mood to deal with these people.

After taking a sip of water from the cup Shi Yuan handed to her, though what she swallowed was water, her throat ached as if scraped by knives.

Shi Su endured it, took another sip, then pushed the cup away and asked in a low and hoarse voice, "Where is Jing Jihan?"

The young girl by the bedside licked her lips, looking at her, seemingly unsure how to lie: "In... in the ICU..."

She guessed it.

Jing Jihan was injured far more seriously than she was.

It would be strange if he wasn’t in the ICU.

But fortunately, he was in the ICU.

Since she had been in a coma for two days before waking, Jing Jihan must have been receiving emergency treatment the whole time during those two days. Being in the ICU indicated there was still hope!

Such thick black smoke, as common sense dictates, everyone knows that in a fire, the most lethal thing is not the fire, but the smoke!

"I want to see him." She lifted the quilt to get out of bed.

"Ah, no, sister, you can’t move, you need to lie down and rest!" Shi Yuan hastily reached out to hold her down: "I-I-I can’t remember clearly what the doctor said, but I think they mentioned you have many soft tissue contusions, a concussion and detached ear stones caused by severe impact from jumping off a building, which will cause dizziness for a few days. You can’t even stand up now..."

As Shi Su indeed tried to get up, she staggered back down due to the sudden vertigo in her mind, nearly vomiting from the intense dizziness; barely stabilizing herself, she uncontrollably fell back, with Shi Yuan quickly supporting her, laying her back on the bed.

"Sister, you mustn’t move now. You’re seriously injured too. Though you don’t need to go to the ICU, you inhaled a lot of dense smoke. Your oxygen mask was only removed this afternoon! Plus, it’s just past eleven at night; there are medical staff guarding the ICU, and Brother Lu Zhao and his people are there too, so rest assured you must get yourself better first!" Shi Yuan said while tucking Shi Su back in: "I’ll stay here with you. If you need anything, let me know. Anyway, you can’t enter the ICU now. You’d only be able to stand outside if you went. If you really want to see Mr. Jing, I can take some photos with my phone and show them to you, alright? But please don’t move!"

Shi Su waited nearly a minute for the dreadful dizziness to finally subside somewhat, but opening her eyes still made her feel woozy.

Forget taking photos; if it were any other time, Shi Su would laugh and cry at such a suggestion, but now she couldn’t even smile.

She raised her hand to her forehead, finding it so unbearable she had to take several deep breaths, then hoarsely asked, "How is he? Is he out of danger yet?"

"Not yet; the doctors say he’s still in a critical period and needs to be observed in the ICU for emergency care at any time..." Shi Yuan sat by the bed, seemingly worried Si Su would be worried, yet unsure how to lie for her peace of mind, only able to speak cautiously in a soft voice: "Because Mr. Jing inhaled too much smoke, I heard when you were brought to the hospital, Mr. Jing was already... already barely holding on... the best doctors in the imperial capital have been called over... I don’t know the specifics or details; it’s just that Brother Lu Zhao told me to take good care of you here, and to notify him when you woke up, and said that if you wake up, don’t leave the ward, as Mr. Jing protected you with his life, you must take good care of yourself...it’s most important..."

Shi Su closed her eyes as the dizziness gradually faded away, her pale lips moving slightly while tears instantly soaked the pillow, but she couldn’t say a word.

Two days later.

Shi Su sat on the hospital bed, the doctor having just come in to check on her. The dizziness had eased a lot over the past two days, but it was still inconvenient for her to get out of bed and move around.

Jing Jihan was still not out of danger. Shi Yuan ran to the ICU hoping to take a few photos for her, but Lu Zhao didn’t allow it. Each time Shi Yuan came back dejected; in fact, Shi Su had not asked her to take the photos. She just wanted to reassure her sister Shi Su. Shi Yuan was embarrassed to say that she was turned back, but each time she returned to the ward, the downcast expression couldn’t be concealed.

Lin Chen and Jun, who flew over specifically from Congjiang City, came to the hospital. Lu Zhao allowed them in to see her.

When the two entered the ward, they saw Shi Su in a light blue hospital gown. Her hair, having been lightly singed at the tips in the fire, was cut from waist-length to just past her shoulders. She leaned against the bed with her eyes closed, exuding an inexplicable calm aura.

Shi Yuan saw them coming, guessed they might be friends of Shi Su, so didn’t disturb them, stepping aside to clear the space by the bed.

"As long as you’re alright, that’s all that matters, I was so worried on the way here." Jun flew to the bedside, grasping Shi Su’s hand to feel the realness, then checked her face and hands for any other injuries, confirming that apart from her hair being cut shorter, she wasn’t harmed elsewhere, just some minor scrapes, and finally breathed a sigh of relief: "I heard you jumped off from the third floor? Hopefully, you didn’t get knocked silly? What’s this number? Say something to me?"

Shi Yuan looked at Shi Su beside her, initially thinking she would speak more after seeing friends, but she remained as overly quiet as she had been these past two days.

Shi Yuan didn’t know Shi Su well yet, but she knew although Shi Su wasn’t overly cheerful or boisterous, she wasn’t the overly silent type either.

But from the day she woke up knowing Jing Jihan hadn’t been out of danger till now, except for a few necessary dialogues, Shi Yuan hadn’t heard Shi Su speak.
