Chapter 480: Chapter 480 - 474: Did You Think I Couldn’t Make It in Time?
The mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind.
It turns out, even before entering the hospital, Jing Jihan had already stationed his people outside.
The calm expression Shi Su had just regained now appeared even more serene. She glanced at Jing Jihan, who had just ended a phone call, and met his gaze.
In that instant, she suddenly picked up her phone and turned off the emergency signal of the automatic app for seeking police assistance.
Jing Jihan glanced at the app on her phone: "Thought I wouldn’t make it in time?"
"No..." She was just worried in case the Shi Family made any move; they might try to hamper Jing Jihan somehow.
Although she did send him her location, she wasn’t sure how many people the Shi Family had deployed. She thought that if the police could handle it, it would be better, avoiding Jing Jihan’s direct involvement, keeping his hands clean.
But she forgot that, as Wen Ke had said before, Jing Jihan was not as simple a businessman as he appeared. His experiences in the United States, his relationship with Qin Zhifeng, and even Wen Ke had served him for quite some time. Wen Ke respected him greatly; Jing Jihan’s abilities were certainly not limited to the business world alone, yet she never purposely asked or probed.
Besides, she was there; it wouldn’t make sense for Jing Jihan not to come.
Though Shi Su had calmed down, her complexion was visibly paler than usual. Jing Jihan didn’t allow her to stay in such a perilous place, worrying any longer, pulling her into his embrace: "Let’s go."
Leaving the inpatient building, Shi Su glanced behind her, noticing Shi Xiangchao’s figure was already indistinguishable in the distance. She spoke softly, "The Shi Family’s network of relatives is so complex that even I am not clear. I’ve checked, Mr. Shi really doesn’t have many days left, with so many watching like hawks..."
"The one watching most closely is Shi Lingkang. In outsiders’ eyes, you and I are rivals. In his eyes, you and I are among his greatest bargaining chips." Jing Jihan said as he escorted Shi Su out of the hospital and, after saying this, helped her into the car, simultaneously answering a phone call.
Once he finished the call and got into the car, Shi Su had already taken the water Lu Zhao handed her. The water in the cup was warm. After drinking a few sips, she finally felt her scattered soul in the hospital building return to her body.
Sometimes people aren’t shocked by immediate danger but expand their fear during evasion to the point of forming psychological shadows.
"Mr. Jing." Lu Zhao presented Jing Jihan with items found on those searched individuals from the front passenger seat.
Jing Jihan nodded, waving to show that he acknowledged.
Shi Su couldn’t see clearly and, witnessing Jing Jihan sitting beside her, she leaned closer, clutching her cup, and whispered, "So many fear my return as the legitimate granddaughter, and Shi Lingkang wants by all means to keep me here, am I caught between two sides?"
Jing Jihan wrapped his arms around the woman leaning towards him and kissed her on her hair, without directly answering, he said, "Scared?"
"Alright. Instinctively, I kept dodging, not knowing how long I had to hide. Just when I thought something might happen, you arrived." Shi Su relaxed, leaning into his embrace with closed eyes, said, "It was like timely rain... arrived just in time when needed the most."
Jing Jihan chuckled because of her description, patting her head, "I’ll first accompany you back to the hotel, everything else, leave to me. After all, the capital is not Jiang City, next time, don’t go out alone. Now is not the time for business discussions, no directors or agents allowed."
"Hmm." Shi Su thought about Mr. Xv’s constant watch outside the security checkpoint earlier, probably already noticed, maybe thought it was media following.
After experiencing panic, she instinctively didn’t want to separate from the safest source, Shi Su firmly felt now, wanting to cling entirely to Jing Jihan, not minding the presence of a driver and Lu Zhao in the front passenger seat.
But she kept snuggling closer into his embrace, only seeking warmth and safety there.
Jing Jihan took the cup she held, not planning on drinking further, covered it, and placed it aside.
Shi Su was enjoying this moment of safety and peace with her eyes closed, suddenly feeling a cold sting on her wrist, with the scent of iodine drifting through the air. Startled, she tried to withdraw her wrist, only for the man to hold it in place. Opening her eyes quickly, she saw Jing Jihan turning her wrist over, applying iodine to a place scraped without her knowledge.
She couldn’t remember where her wrist got scraped.
Perhaps while running between safety passages, because though the hospitals in the capital are authoritative and new, most people use elevators, stairs aren’t commonly used. Even with frequent maintenance, there’s still some neglected old trash bins in the stairwells. She likely bumped into a metal trash bin between floors while running, scraping against its rusty corner twice, too busy to mind the pain then.
Not only her wrist, but the backside of her hand had some scratches as well, which were also treated by Jing Jihan.
A bit painful, Shi Su instinctively hissed, wanting to pull away.
"Don’t move, let’s disinfect first, and see how it goes when back to the hotel, if necessary, we’ll get it bandaged at the hospital." The man held her hand firmly, attentively applying medicine to the scratches on her hand and wrist, then putting down the cotton swabs and iodine after checking both hands thoroughly, glancing at her face and neck to make sure there were no additional injuries before collecting the items and handing them to Lu Zhao.
Fortunately, it’s winter now, and the capital has been cold these days. Shi Su wore long pants, leaving little exposed skin; otherwise, he would have meticulously checked her legs and other parts thoroughly as well.
The car stopped in front of the hotel, and Lu Zhao didn’t get out, seeming to have other matters to attend to.
Shi Su hadn’t the mind to ask much now. After spending the entire ride resting against Jing Jihan, she took a deep breath of the cold air in the capital upon stepping out, refreshed, just ready to enter the hotel, her phone suddenly rang, showing the same unknown number.
But that number only rang twice before it abruptly hung up.
Shi Su hesitated for a moment, dialed back immediately, though less than half a minute had passed, when calling back, the number turned off.
Jing Jihan noticed the surprise in her eyes and took her phone to look over: "Whose number?"
"I don’t know. It called me while I was at the hospital today, I didn’t answer, and now it suddenly shut off."
Upon hearing this, Jing Jihan’s expression remained unchanged, yet as he gently ushered her into the hotel elevator, his gaze seemingly casually swept around, seeing a swiftly departing figure flickering at the hotel lobby.
