Chapter 477: Chapter 477 - 471: Can I Borrow a Nurse Uniform to Wear?

After sending the WeChat message, Shi Su didn’t put her phone back in her bag but instead placed it in her jacket pocket, keeping her hand in the pocket and tightly gripping the phone, then turned and headed towards the security checkpoint outside the ward.

As Shi Su turned, her eyes met those of the two people, seemingly aware of an unspoken understanding.

She initially walked at a normal pace, passing through the security checkpoint, temporarily avoiding the gaze of the two, then sped up towards the other side of the corridor.

Passing by Shi Xiangchao in the middle, who had just taken a call, he suddenly saw Shi Su approaching and thought she was coming to speak to him, stepping forward to greet her, but only saw Shi Su pass by him expressionlessly, swiftly moving towards the other side of the corridor without turning back.

Shi Xiangchao glanced at her back, the next moment seeing the two people suddenly following behind, his expression immediately turned stern, and he picked up his phone and entered the neighboring family waiting room.

Jing Jihan quickly sent a WeChat message to Shi Su: [How many people? Can you take a call now?]

Shi Su turned the stairwell door, picked up her phone and softly replied in a voice message: "Two people, I guess they know I’ve spotted them."

She didn’t have time to say much, fearing the two might catch up. She wasn’t entirely sure if she had alerted them, but she still felt a chill climbing up her spine and quickly ran upstairs to the next floor.

Shi Su was 100% certain those two were definitely not paparazzi reporters; although they had bulky bags, they didn’t have any photography equipment. Thinking back, she had seemed to notice these two as soon as she arrived, but they were standing far away, just a passing glance; she hadn’t paid attention after passing the security checkpoint, but saw them again upon coming out, confirming in an instant that they were targeting her.

Shi Dongyang’s impulsiveness at that time showed that other members of the Shi Family didn’t want her to return alive.

Shi Lingkang couldn’t possibly be unaware that for Shi Su, the imperial capital now was a dragon’s den, yet he used Mr. Shi’s critical illness to call her back, intending to use her identity as Mr. Shi’s cherished granddaughter to disrupt the situation, or use her as bait?

He was her biological father.

A biological father unworthy of being human.

Shi Su’s expression remained steady as she ran to the upper floor, unsure where the two had pursued her, unable to continue running upwards to preserve her strength. She rushed into this floor’s family waiting room, amidst the puzzled and defensive glances of other patients’ families, headed straight for the door leading to the security checkpoint, bypassed the ward passage through the side isolation passage, ran towards the end of the hallway on the other side to the stairwell, and ran downstairs from this side.

After descending two floors, she was about to head to the elevator area, but since this inpatient building only had four elevators, if those two were already waiting on the first floor, she’d be caught as soon as she stepped out of the elevator.

With the safety passage being too far apart on both sides, including the elevator, there were six positions to block; if they were only two people, she’d have to gamble on one of these sides having a gap temporarily.

But if those two now knew her intention, they might separate before she reached the first floor, going to either side stairwell waiting to intercept her?

No matter if she could run out of the inpatient building, she had to first buy time until Jing Jihan’s people arrived.

Shi Su headed to the elevator, this floor seemed to be the maternity ward, the cries of babies incessant. Seeing one side of the elevator open, she entered with several families holding babies, standing behind them, pressed the number 5 in the elevator, stopping at the fifth floor rather than going to the first floor, quickly stepping out, then turned and pressed all the elevator’s up and down buttons, causing each elevator to pause on the fifth floor, drawing attention, then without pause, headed straight towards the nurse station.

Shi Su coughed while walking, speaking to a nurse: "Sorry, I might have caught a cold, I have relatives hospitalized here and don’t want to infect them; could you give me a medical mask to wear?"

The young nurse at the nurse station saw she was already wearing a mask, albeit a black ordinary one, promptly handed her a medical mask from the drawer. "Here you go."

After receiving and thanking the nurse, the young nurse suddenly looked at her eyes carefully and exclaimed, "You are..."

Shi Su quickly removed the black mask, lowered her voice amidst the nurse’s excitement, saying, "There are unscrupulous paparazzi following me; I need to hide. Please don’t say you’ve seen me. Thank you."

Unexpectedly, she was really the star Shi Su, the young nurse widened her eyes in excitement but, seeing Shi Su’s nervous and warning look, quickly nodded, quietly making an OK gesture with her hand.

Shi Su was about to leave when the nurse suddenly carefully tugged at her sleeve, whispering, "Our medical staff dormitory is on the eighteenth floor; you can hide in our dormitory."

Shi Su had just come down from the sixteenth floor, contemplating whether returning to the eighteenth floor would risk getting intercepted.

Considering her actions earlier, those two may very well have come to the fifth floor.

"No need, but do you have a nurse uniform I can borrow?"

"I do, but it is from yesterday, already dirty, I haven’t had time to take it back to wash..." The nurse spoke while pulling out her uniform, changed this morning.

Shi Su took it: "I’ll take it for now; will find time to return it."

There was no time to speak further with the evidently fan-like nurse, Shi Su grabbed the uniform and swiftly ran to the stairwell, running upwards to the eighth floor, slightly panting, her eyes scanning around. On the eighth floor, there was a fire escape and safety stairs, along with a duty station and fire safety door. She quickly recalled the layout of various floors she’d passed earlier, visualizing the floor map in her mind with some accuracy, knowing that between the sixteenth and fifth floors, someone could come at any moment to pursue her.

Taking advantage of the empty stairwell on the eighth floor, she hurriedly took off her jacket, hid it behind a trash can, donned the nurse’s uniform, changed to a medical mask, retrieved a pair of blue-filter glasses from her bag usually worn on bare-faced outings, pulled her hair up, casually styled it like other nurses, lowered her head, and walked into the floor.

Not knowing if the young nurse’s excitement could override those tracking her; it was crucial not to trust anyone at this time, especially as Shi Su approached the elevator, ready to enter, hearing the loud sound of the stairwell door being opened, realizing she was likely being pursued.
