Chapter 439: Chapter 439 - 433: Sponsor Dad, Are You Really Sure Nothing Will Happen…
The car stopped at the old residence of the Jing Family.
Everything within the old residence was as it used to be, as if there hadn’t been much change.
Shi Su got out of the car and saw Mrs. Jing leading Mianmian by the hand, walking down. Mianmian curiously looked around, leaning close to Mrs. Jing’s leg and softly asked, "Great-grandma, what is this place?"
"This is a great place where no one dares to bully you, and everyone will treat you as the most beloved little darling." Mrs. Jing smiled and pinched Mianmian’s little hand, "When you see that old man later, Mianmian, remember to learn from Great-grandma and ignore him, show him some attitude!"
"What does showing attitude mean?" Mianmian tilted her head while asking and carefully observed Mrs. Jing’s expression, finding that Great-grandma’s expression indeed looked cold and fierce, surprised, she said, "Is this what attitude means?"
"Yes, learn from me and show him some attitude!"
"Oh, oh." Mianmian hurriedly tried to mimic, her little face changed for a while, but eventually looked embarrassed, "Great-grandma, I can’t do it..."
"If you can’t do it, then don’t. Anyway, Great-grandma is here to support you! With Great-grandma around!" Mrs. Jing patted Mianmian’s little hand, then turned to Shi Su, who had been holding back laughter, "And Shi Su, with me here, if that old thing dares to trouble you, I’ll sort him out for you!"
"Thank you, Grandma..." Shi Su laughed.
Actually, Mr. Jing hadn’t done anything hurtful to her in the past. Mr. Jing had stood up for her, said things for her – it was clear he was naturally a humorous and clear-headed person. Back then, he was merely calm and reasonable, not injurious.
Though stubborn, indeed stubborn.
Seeing Mrs. Jing genuinely returning with an intent to cause trouble, Shi Su felt that today’s situation might be even more uncontrollable than she anticipated.
Jing Jihan had just gotten out of the car when he suddenly received a WeChat message from Shi Su.
Shi Su was clearly right next to him, no more than a meter away.
Shi Su: [Sugar Daddy, are you sure it won’t turn into a brawl later?]
Jing Jihan glanced at the line she sent, his amusement apparent upon seeing the words "Sugar Daddy."
He reached out his arm and directly led her along the cobblestone path into the courtyard towards the main hall. Ahead, Mrs. Jing had already walked further with Mianmian. He then spoke, "There won’t be a fight. Even if there really were a fight, the battlefield wouldn’t involve us, restricted only to the old couple’s disputes."
Shi Su was surprised, "Did Grandpa and Grandma often argue before?"
"Yeah."
"How did they argue?"
Jing Jihan laughed lightly, seemingly recalling something, "When they argued, it was chaos; during cold wars, they could go days without a word."
"..."
Shi Su was genuinely curious about how the elderly couple could argue to such chaos.
Reaching the main hall of the Jing family’s old residence, Mr. Li had just fetched a blanket over. Mr. Jing was sitting in the rocking chair with closed eyes, his favorite radio behind him. However, it wasn’t playing music this time, not sure if he was asleep or just resting, either way, his eyes were shut.
Mianmian followed Mrs. Jing inside and saw, from a distance, the old grandpa sitting in the rocking chair. From her perspective, the face was unclear; she curiously peered in that direction.
Mr. Li still held the blanket in his hands. Upon seeing their return, especially when he saw Mrs. Jing, his always calm and cautious expression momentarily shattered with a hint of shock, bewilderedly eyeing Mrs. Jing, whose face read "I’m back to cause trouble," then swiftly glanced at the composed Mr. Jing and the long-unseen Shi Su, finally his gaze landed on the little girl being led by Mrs. Jing.
"Madam..." Mr. Li hurriedly paid his respects to Mrs. Jing, eyes somewhat fervent as he looked at this lady he hadn’t seen in nearly twenty years. Then, he glanced at Mianmian beside her, "Would this be..."
Without needing anyone’s response, Mr. Li’s gaze earnestly fixed on Mianmian’s little face, recalling a photo he saw a few days ago in the old man’s album.
This child really resembled Mr. Jing when he was young.
Truly a resemblance.
Reports and rumors spreading outside over the past few days were known to the Jing family, but even though Mr. Jing here was anxious and agitated to the point of inflammation, Mr. Jing hadn’t given him an answer, merely saying he’d bring the child back for a meeting soon, saying nothing further. It truly stressed the old man out.
Mr. Jing hadn’t slept well last night, his throat ached, and he barely managed to nap in the rocking chair. As they entered the main hall, his snores began.
Hearing the snores, Mrs. Jing’s face instantly became even more displeased, glaring fiercely at that old thing.
Mr. Li, surprised, whispered, "Oh dear, he fell asleep? He was just complaining about his sore throat, headache, and discomfort in sleeping, yet here he is actually asleep."
Shi Su noticed the snoring sounded like a slightly blocked nose, whispering to Mr. Li, "What happened to Grandpa Jing?"
"He’s stressed and agitated, coupled with last night’s sleeping without closing the window, he caught a chill by accident."
"..."
Indeed, still the same old man, looking formal and dignified, yet unreliable when it came to being unreliable.
Mr. Li quickly went over to cover the old man with a blanket.
Mr. Jing was sleeping; suddenly he felt a few pairs of eyes on him, and abruptly covered with a blanket, his snores stopped, irritably furrowing his brows, he opened his eyes at Mr. Li, intending to close them again to continue sleeping but suddenly felt a jolt in his brow bone, sharply turning his gaze toward the main hall entrance.
Upon meeting Mrs. Jing’s face, initially thinking he was still dreaming, how could this old lady have even whiter hair than back then, yet her face hardly appeared older?
How many years had it been, nearly twenty.
Hardly aging would be strange.
Mr. Jing closed his eyes again, wanting to sleep a bit more.
"Sir, Madam has returned, along with Mr. Jing and Miss Shi Su... and..." Mr. Li glanced at Mianmian being held by Mrs. Jing, lightly said, "Your great-granddaughter."
!!!
Mr. Jing suddenly reopened his eyes, quickly turning to look at the doorway, clearly seeing them standing there, unlike the vague, surreal images in dreams.
Especially that full-headed gray-haired old lady coldly glaring at him, Mr. Jing couldn’t help but shiver slightly, his gaze shifting as he saw Jing Jihan and Shi Su, immediately squinting as he fixed his eyes on the child.
Mianmian tilted her head looking at the old grandpa on the lounge chair, feeling as though she might have seen him once two years ago, but for a four-year-old, some fleeting images aren’t memorable enough to ingrave deep impressions, merely finding him a bit familiar, unable to recall where she saw him before, she tilted her head, curiously gazing at him.
