Chapter 367: Chapter 367 - 361: Just How Much Did She Cry

The black Bentley stopped downstairs at the Wanxing Building. Shi Su immediately got out of the car without hesitation. Through the car window, she politely nodded and thanked the two people inside several times. The Bentley didn’t even lower its window before driving away in front of her.

After being left in the dust twice in one night by that Bentley, Shi Su held back her expression, standing there without moving for quite a while before exhaling deeply. She forced herself to turn around and entered the Wanxing Building.

She didn’t have a mask in her bag. She needed to go back to the workshop to get a mask and sunglasses from the drawer in Jun’s office, put them on, and then go back to where she was staying.

Usually, when she returned home, she was very careful, afraid someone might follow and discover her current residence. Otherwise, Mianmian could easily be tracked and photographed by stalkers or paparazzi at home, disrupting their normal life.

...

Early the next morning, Shi Su suddenly discovered a new contact had been added to her phone address book. She opened it to find it was Zhou He, who she had previously deleted.

Considering how he helped her last night and that they were both brought to the police station, she felt she owed him a favor. Shi Su reluctantly accepted his friend request.

As soon as they connected, Zhou He sent a message.

Zhou He: [(Photo)]

Zhou He: [Isn’t this what you dropped in Mr. Jing’s car last night?]

Shi Su was surprised to see the pink doll keychain in the photo.

It was indeed the little trinket Shi Mianmian often hung on her bag while playing. It was some princess from a cartoon; she couldn’t quite remember which one.

She glanced at her bag before replying to Zhou He: [It’s mine, my daughter’s.]

Zhou He: [Haha, did the string on this little thing come loose when you accidentally pulled it during the fight last night? It fell in Mr. Jing’s car. I’ll bring it to you.]

Shi Su: [No need to trouble yourself, just throw it away. My daughter has lots of these things; she often hangs them on my bag. They aren’t sturdy, and she’s lost quite a few herself. I’ll get her a new set when I find time.]

Zhou He: [I’ll bring it to you. Where are you filming today? I can bring it to you during my lunch break.]

Shi Su: [Really, there’s no need.]

Zhou He: [Alright then, I’ll just leave it with Mr. Jing for now, and when I have time, I’ll bring it to you.]

Shi Su hesitated for a moment and sent another message: [What do you mean by leaving it with Mr. Jing?]

Zhou He: [Because this little thing is now on Mr. Jing’s desk. I got back too late yesterday, then there was an early meeting today, so Mr. Jing just took it to the office. I slept in the temporary overtime rest area at the company last night. When I went to Mr. Jing’s office this morning, I saw it on his desk; it was something Mr. Jing found in his car.]

Shi Su: "......"

She felt a bit dizzy.

She thought it was Zhou He who found it.

She really didn’t drop it in his car on purpose or use it as an excuse to have something happen between them.

Would it be better to ask Zhou He to bring it back immediately or throw it away directly? That would be better than leaving it on Jing Jihan’s desk.

Just as Shi Su was about to send another message to Zhou He, he suddenly sent another one: [I’m going to have breakfast now, see you later.]

Her fingers paused on the screen, and she didn’t say anything further.

Forget it, explaining too much would make it awkward. Let it be; probably Jing Jihan would throw it away soon enough.

Before heading to the set in the morning, Shi Su took the time to stop by the studio. She saw Jun, who had a whole night’s beauty sleep, entering the office with exquisite makeup. After exchanging a glance with Shi Su, who was sitting in her office drinking black coffee, Jun turned, smiling as if nothing happened, and was about to open the door to leave quickly.

"Where are you going in such a hurry? Having so much fun selling me out?" Shi Su sat in Jun’s office chair without moving, calmly sipping her coffee.

Jun stopped in her tracks, looked at Shi Su, and seeing she didn’t look like she was brought home by Jing Jihan last night, she stepped back into the office and glanced at Shi Su’s eyes: "Didn’t sleep well last night?"

"Coming home so late, how could I possibly sleep well?"

"If it was that late, how could a female celebrity like you end up fighting with some hooligans in the street?" Jun couldn’t figure it out since last night.

Shi Su placed her coffee cup on the table with a slight thud and gave her a disgruntled look: "A woman who wouldn’t even help with bail, you have no right to be curious."

Jun’s lip twitched: "I did go last night, but as soon as I arrived, I saw Mr. Jing getting out of the car, so I..."

"I specifically waited for you before heading to the set to seriously tell you, don’t ever do this selling me out thing again. Don’t care if it’s Jing Jihan or whoever, no connections mean no connections." Shi Su stood up harshly; when she spoke to Jun, it was always with mutual teasing, it was rare to be this serious.

Jun said nothing more, but it was clear she was helpless against the stubbornness ingrained in Shi Su.

When together, it’s fine to be sweet and dependent, but once broken up, it’s over, with no thoughts of maintaining old contacts even a little. Other people, when encountering someone like Jing Jihan, would try to keep some connection even after breaking up, but Shi Su insisted on severing every last thread.

Her attitude could be seen as having the right principles, being straightforward and resolute, but in reality, this kind of attitude can easily lead to suffering.

"I’m heading to the set." Shi Su finished her coffee, grabbed her bag, and left.

As she brushed past Jun, Jun suddenly said: "Really not giving yourself any chance? The last time I went to pick Mianmian up from kindergarten on your behalf, I saw Mianmian holding a drawing. The kindergarten had asked them to draw a day spent with their parents. Mianmian drew you and him... but she didn’t bring the picture home. She also asked me not to tell you because she thought Mommy would cry. Mianmian’s so little, yet she knows you’d be sad. How much did you cry back in the old house to scare Mianmian into not daring to mention Jing Jihan in front of you again from then on, or bring home even a drawing of a dad, keeping it hidden instead..."

Shi Su heard it, but it was as if she hadn’t heard, as she walked straight past without stopping for a moment.

Time flies like a galloping horse, and soon, it’s autumn again.

The cinema was about to face the peak of the National Day schedule, and the movie Shi Su had previously filmed was also about to be released.

"Shadow Kill" was still in intense filming. She had scarcely taken a few days’ leave for publicity, traveling around major cities in the country for interviews and events, even appearing on two major variety shows in the country for the first time.

Shi Su indeed seldom appeared on variety shows. When she did, she was merely cooperating with the promotional activities, saying what needed to be said, quietly sitting during games without stealing the spotlight. The hosts constantly cued her, asking all sorts of questions, which she cleverly, with a smile, brushed aside.

Initially, her fans were thrilled and excited that she was finally on a variety show, only to find out that Shi Su truly only wanted to focus on acting, caring nothing about anything else.
