Chapter 364: Chapter 364 - 358: To Make Jing Jihan Completely...
Jing Luozhou surprisingly hadn’t left, leisurely leaning against the black Bentley, his gaze directed towards her, clearly still waiting for her.
Shi Su looked at him, then walked over: "I thought you had already left."
Jing Luozhou looked at her like she was an idiot: "Am I that kind of person? I promised to give you a ride, so I will."
"I really don’t need it, my assistant can drive me, there’s really no need for this."
Seeing her clear insistence on severing ties with all past familiar connections, Jing Luozhou raised his eyebrows coolly: "Do you know how I managed to get this car out today?"
Shi Su turned her head, not speaking, not interested in discussing matters irrelevant to her.
"My brother hasn’t returned to the Jing Family for a long time. Except for a glance during the Spring Festival, he hasn’t come back even when the old man had his birthday; he was busy abroad, not even a phone call." Jing Luozhou said lightly, "His relationship with the old man took a drastic turn a year and a half ago."
Shi Su looked at him again.
"Back then, the old man sought you out, talked to you, and said things to you; do you really think he doesn’t know?" Jing Luozhou suddenly snorted, "Even if he guessed, even if he knew, you blocked off every path he had laid down for you with the ’married’ label you’ve been playing so absolutely, so ruthlessly. Do you find it particularly amusing?"
Jing Luozhou continued speaking on his own: "The old man has had chest pains these days and isn’t feeling well, so he took the time to go back for a visit, and I took his car out incidentally."
Shi Su remained silent, only looking at him quietly.
Jing Luozhou sneered again as he looked back: "Whether you get in the car or not is irrelevant; after all, it’s my brother’s car. I doubt he’d want you to get in again. I’m just here because I want to see for myself how heartless you can be, and you didn’t disappoint me."
He opened the car door and no longer looked at her, his voice coolly drifting through the air: "I’ve always wondered what extent you had reached to be completely erased from Jing Jihan’s life. Today, I finally witnessed it."
Shi Su maintained a silent, expressionless stance, as if everything she had just heard was completely unrelated to her, not stirring her emotions in the slightest.
It wasn’t until the sound of the engine started, until the car drove away from her, leaving dust in its wake, that she lowered her head, gazing at her own toes for a long time, long enough that Chujie thought she might become a fossil standing there, and hurriedly ran down to call her, only then did she lift her head, as if nothing had happened, and got back in the car.
The dream was an endless, vast ocean, and Shi Su sank to the bottom of it, engulfed by a fear of the deep sea, layers of whirlpools swallowing her within them. She struggled desperately, as if seeing someone standing above the whirlpool looking down at her coldly, clearly knowing that if she just reached out, she could be saved, clearly knowing he could easily scoop her out.
She silently called to him, not knowing what she shouted, only seeing that man’s eyes filled with indifference watching her struggle.
Abruptly, she awoke.
She realized she was still in the car. She had returned from the set, and Chujie was driving her home, but unexpectedly she couldn’t withstand today’s exhaustion and menstrual pain, and fell asleep in the car.
"Shi Su, you’re awake?" Chujie was driving, and through the rearview mirror, he saw Shi Su in the back seat with a look of waking from a nightmare: "We’re almost home."
Shi Su looked out the car window. It was now eight o’clock at night, and the city lights of Jiang City’s streets were dazzling.
She opened the car window, lay against it, and looked outside. The wind blowing against her face made her feel much more awake.
Her stomach ached, and her stomach started to growl. Shi Su asked Chujie to stop the car, and the two of them, wearing hats, went to a nearby, less crowded food stall to have a bowl of spicy hotpot and skewers.
It wasn’t until past ten o’clock at night that Chujie headed home alone with a full stomach; it was quite close to Shi Su’s home, no need to send her.
The weather has been hot recently, and a summer festival was held in the neighborhood near Wanxing Building. The streets and alleys were bustling at night, but after ten o’clock, the stalls closed, the coming and going crowds lessened, and the lights dimmed considerably.
Only a few small sweet shops in little booths remained open.
Shi Su, wearing a hat and mask, went to pack a box of donuts and some pretty gummy candy for Shi Mianmian. With two pink takeaway boxes in hand, she was ready to walk home.
This place was considered one of the more prosperous locations in Jiang City, but because it was too prosperous, a few old buildings could not be demolished, asking for too high a price, making the small alleyways among the buildings appear rather dark.
Crossing this small alley, reaching the end ahead, one could return to Wanxing Building. After crossing the road opposite Wanxing Building, one could directly go home.
Just as Shi Su was about to walk to the street under Wanxing Building, she suddenly felt as if someone in the alley was trying to catcall her. She hesitated for a moment, instinctively lowering the brim of her hat, fearing being recognized by some paparazzi who would follow her home and expose her living situation.
However, the catcalling suddenly approached, and someone patted her on the shoulder: "Girlie, alone..."
Shi Su paused, and the moment she clearly heard it, she quickly pulled out a can of pepper spray from her bag—
...
An hour later.
Jiang City, Wanxing District Police Station.
The lights shone on Shi Su’s face, and Zhou He, sitting nearby, squinted his eyes under the light, feeling helpless as he sat there.
Shi Su: "I was buying things inside, and as soon as I came out, I suddenly got entangled by those few thugs. There were many of them. I merely had a can of pepper spray, couldn’t beat them, so I ran and grabbed a brick from the street to smash on their heads. Even if it caused harm, it was only self-defense."
Zhou He: "...I was just driving by and saw an acquaintance running in panic, so I got out to help a bit, grabbed an old bumper from the car to help. Who knew this lady could beat those boys into the ground one by one."
The thugs crouching in the corner, clutching their heads, black and blue: "..."
Shi Su’s mouth twitched: "Do you know how many times stronger a woman’s resistance is in the face of danger compared to usual strength?"
Moreover, since she encountered danger back in Z City, she had, during each filming stint since then, deliberately learned some truly useful moves from the action director, at least when wielding things like swords and sticks, she could accurately hit people’s most vulnerable and painful spots.
Zhou He: "...Today, I found out."
After being forced to give statements, Shi Su and Zhou He were released but had to wait for someone to bail them out.
Shi Su called Jun, it being too embarrassing to trouble Miss Chen, so she had to ask Jun to come over in the middle of the night.
Zhou He asked next to her: "Who’s coming to bail you out?"
"My studio boss," Shi Su replied succinctly, looking at Zhou He. She hadn’t expected Zhou He to suddenly drive by tonight, and expressed her gratitude back in the interrogation room.
She subconsciously continued the conversation: "What about you? Who’s coming to bail you out?"
Zhou He was about to answer when his phone rang suddenly, and he hastily answered: "Mr. Jing..."
