Chapter 214: Chapter 214 - 213: Who Is Your Daughter’s Real Father?

Shi Lingkang heard such words from afar, and seeing Shi Su’s obviously strange eye expression, he was even more convinced that she was fooling around with more than one man, and his anger surged immediately.

"Animal! Disgracing the family! Get out of here! Get far away, don’t even die at home, don’t dirty the Shi Family!"

Boom!

There were still rumblings of thunder in the ears.

You are unclean.

Don’t even die at home.

Don’t dirty the Shi Family.

...

Shi Su abruptly opened her eyes, staring at the crystal chandelier that had been left on all night, and turned woodenly to look towards the window.

The curtains were tightly closed, yet she could still see the daylight outside.

Two days later.

"The driver of your shuttle bus initially arranged took a leave to return home, so the crew hired a new driver. Please wait for him at the hotel entrance; he will drive you to the set," the producer’s assistant said while calling Shi Su: "The new driver’s phone number is 177xxxxxxxx; he hasn’t handed over the shuttle bus yet and will pick you up using his own car— a second-hand Passat."

Shi Su checked the time and asked, "Is the driver a local?"

"His accent suggests he is either a local or from Jiang City, so communication shouldn’t be a problem."

"OK."

Shi Su hung up the phone, stood by the roadside waiting for the car, and sent a WeChat message to Chu Jiu.

Shi Su: [The car is coming soon, have you arrived at the set yet?]

Chu Jiu: [Almost there, luckily you didn’t arrive too early. The afternoon scene seems to be moving to the evening, Tong Yuanyuan’s scene isn’t finished yet, the set is occupied; by the time you start filming, it’ll almost be dark.]

When the car sent by the crew first picked up Shi Su, she received a call from Jiang City. The kindergarten teacher was calling for the routine monthly communication with parents about the children’s home and kindergarten matters. Since the director mentioned it wasn’t urgent, Shi Su let Chu Jiu and Jun head to the set first, planning to go later herself.

By chance, the temporary shuttle bus driver took a leave to return home, and a replacement driver was arranged, allowing her to catch a ride.

A dark gray Passat approached from the distance, though second-hand, it seemed well-maintained, at least not looking very old in appearance.

Shi Su matched the license plate number the producer’s assistant had mentioned, walked over, opened the back door, and sat inside, glancing at the young man in the driver’s seat. He was wearing a baseball cap and thin-framed glasses, appearing gentle and refined.

After Shi Su got in, the young driver adjusted the mirror and nodded politely to Shi Su through it: "Hello, Miss Shi Su, I’m the driver hired by the crew, you can call me Xiaochao."

"Hello, thank you for your hard work." Shi Su nodded to the driver and lowered her head to take out the script from her bag to continue studying it.

If the afternoon scene was temporarily moved to the evening, the content of the script would also change. She took out the script page the director had given her as a backup for evening scenes and pondered the lines thoughtfully.

The car sped forward, and after about ten minutes of Shi Su immersing herself in the script, she inadvertently glanced outside.

"Isn’t the set in the east? Why is the place we just passed called Dingxi Road?"

"Today’s scene isn’t at the resort villa but has been moved to another location, not there anymore." The driver spoke while subconsciously lowering the brim of his hat slightly.

Shi Su, unfamiliar with Z City’s roads, asked casually. Seeing the driver’s lowering movement, her fingers paused imperceptibly on the script.

She watched him a bit more in the rearview mirror, having not seen his face particularly clearly when she first got in. Now, with the hat brim lowered, only the lower half of his face was visible, obscuring his eyes.

Yet suddenly, she felt inexplicably familiar with this driver.

In her impression, she had never met this person before; it was her first time in Z City, but this familiarity...

"I know the venue changed today, but I heard from the producer that it’s near the eastern part of the city." She said while looking outside again, "The road we’re passing now is called West Sun Road; earlier, it was Dingxi Road, all indicating we’re heading west."

The driver patiently responded warmly: "Miss Shi Su, you’re not very familiar with Z City’s roads. The entire road east of Junkai Hotel is under construction and inaccessible. Z City doesn’t have overpasses, so we have to take a detour."

Detour?

Does the eastern road require such a lengthy detour to the west?

Even though Shi Su knows little about Z City, she is aware that it’s not big. If they continue heading west, the car would soon reach Z City’s Western Third Ring Road and then the highway entrance.

She lowered her head, flipping through two more pages of the script as if unaware, then closed the script as the speed accelerated further. Leaning back against the seat, she rubbed her temples: "I feel a bit carsick, could you slow down?"

"Sure."

After the speed slightly decreased, Shi Su leaned back, seemingly unable to do anything else due to carsickness, and casually asked: "Did you buy this car yourself?"

"Yes."

"How old are you?" she asked in a conversational tone.

After a moment of silence, the driver answered, "Twenty-two."

"So young, and already saved enough to buy a car, quite impressive."

"It’s just a second-hand car, less than a hundred thousand yuan."

After closing her eyes for a dozen seconds, Shi Su opened them again, looking into the rearview mirror. As she watched the driver’s face through it, it became increasingly familiar until she suddenly realized something, her palms turning half cold instantly.
