Chapter 73: Chapter 73

City X… Ju’ans’ Residence.

The whole family was sitting at the large dining table. While the servants were bringing out food from the kitchen and setting the table, Mrs. Ju’an couldn’t wipe off her smile as she looked at the girl sitting with her son.

“Mother-in-law,” Priscilla said in a coquettish voice. “You look extra happy, is there good news you would like to share with us?”

“Ha, no no.” Mrs. Ju’an laughed, shaking her head. “Priscilla, did you say your father, Mr. Wang, owns many estates?”

“That is right, Mother-in-law.” Priscilla ducked her head, tucking her hair aside. “As an important Manager in MystiArt Productions, my Dad has immersed a lot of wealth because he has been working there since the company was established. Normally, Dad thought it was a good idea to have some assets.”

Mrs. Ju’an couldn’t be any happier. Who knew the heavens would smile at her and provide her with such a daughter-in-law at the last minute?

When her son suddenly revealed to them that he was going to change his bride, Mrs. Ju’an was a bit worried, thinking something was wrong with the boy. It turned out her son had found a better choice.

A good girl with a nice background. The fact that her father was very well-off and she was the only daughter made it even better. Ah! Mrs. Ju’an could only imagine the look on the faces of her hypocritical friends when she showed off her daughter-in-law.

This one wasn’t as beautiful as the other one. But who cares about beauty when there’s a lot of money?

“You’re a good girl, Priscilla. Son, don’t give her any trouble, okay?” Mrs. Ju’an said with a smile in her eyes.

Jason had been quiet as if lost in his thoughts. Without saying a reply, he only nodded to his mother’s request.

Priscilla sensed his gloom and she held his arm. “Honey, the food is here. What are you thinking about?”

“It’s nothing.” Jason looked up. “You have been complaining of hunger. Eat as much as you can.” Jason went ahead to serve food on the girl’s plate and Priscilla beamed bashfully.

To Mr. Ju’an and Mrs. Ju’an, the young couple were caring and considerate towards each other. They trusted their son to be a gentleman, and they felt lucky that their daughter-in-law turned out to be a sweet person too.

Even though Mr. Ju’an didn’t say anything and was silently eating his food, he looked happy nevertheless. Mrs. Ju’an who was overjoyed by her daughter-in-law began pouring food on the girl’s plate.

“Eat more, Dear. You have to keep your body strong. When the babies arrive, I don’t want your body to be weak.”

“Ah, mother-in-law, that is so thoughtful of you.” Priscilla smiled shyly, ducking her head again.

“Who told you to call me mother-in-law? Just call me Mum, Dear? You are like Layla to me… I won’t treat you both any differently.”

Layla had been sitting quietly. It wasn’t that the girl didn’t like to talk, she was just too mad to say anything. Since her brother and Priscilla arrived and they sat together at the dining table, she had been keeping it in, trying to suppress her anger.

However, her mother’s actions towards Priscilla and the girls’ hypocritical actions rubbed her in the wrong way. Seriously, Layla didn’t know what her brother saw in Priscilla. Up till now, she never knew what Annie did for him to dump her at the altar.

The only thing she knew was that Mr. Wang had something to do with it due to the news flying around in the company’s forum.

“You- Layla, why are you staring at your brother’s wife like that?” Mrs. Ju’an had caught her daughter glaring at the girl and she couldn’t help but ask.

“Brother’s wife? What Brother’s wife?” Layla rolled her eyes and stood up. “Mum, this girl is a two-faced vixen! Don’t you know what she even did to get my brother? Her innocent actions are only a show-off. Her heart is darker than the night!”

After Layla’s outrage, a pin-drop silence fell upon the dining area. Everyone stared at her as if she had gone crazy, Mrs. Ju’an could barely say a word. “Y-You, where did that come from? Layla, how could you say such words to her?”

“Mum, it is the truth. Can you believe what this girl did? She is damned destroying others’ careers for goodness sake. She wasn’t satisfied even after snatching Brother from Annie, she still went ahead to set her up.”

Mr. and Mrs. Ju’an were a bit confused. They looked between Layla and Priscilla who now had tears streaming down her face.

“W- What are you talking about?” Priscilla broke into rapid sobs, feigning a confused look. “How could you say that, Layla? Why would I do anything to harm a fellow employee? It is true that you are good friends with Annie, but you can’t blame me for what happened to her.”

“Cut out the bullshit!” Layla got more irritated. “Priscilla, I know the kind of person you are. Don’t even try the pretend game with me. If not you, who would do such things to Annie? Dammit! You’re not even as good as her yet you aspire to destroy her hard work. Are you so insecure that you can’t stay out of her way?”

Priscilla covered her face and sobbed louder, her shoulders shaking rapidly. “Honey, please believe me. I have nothing to do with Annie’s demotion. How could your sister pin the blame on me?”

“Oh my goodness, stop crying, Dear.” Mrs. Ju’an finally recovered from her shock and hurried to the girl. “Don’t mind her, she doesn’t know what she’s saying.”

“Mum? Are you going to believe her?” Layla said in agitation.

“So what if we do?” Mr. Ju’an spoke up. “This is not how you treat a family member, Layla. Are you still a kid that we have to teach you manners?”

“But, Dad-“

“You have gone too far, Layla.” Jason stood up, holding Priscilla. He gave Layla a dark look and said, “I have warned you to not give her any trouble. Do you think you have the right to reprimand her?”

“She is not a good person!”

“She is my wife!” Jason cut her off. “From now on, watch the way you speak to her. Next time you act disrespectful, you won’t like what I’ll do to you.”

No one expected Jason to suddenly leave with Priscilla. In the next few minutes, the young couple were out of the house. Only the sound of a car and Priscilla’s loud cries could be heard from the outside. Despite Mrs. Ju’an’s attempt to stop them, they insisted on leaving.

“Well done, Layla.” Mrs. Ju’an dropped both hands on her waist, glaring at her stubborn daughter. “I know you still prefer that girl without origin to be your brother’s wife. What I didn’t think was you’ll try to destroy your brother’s marriage.”

“We are very disappointed in you, Layla.” Mr. Ju’an shook his head. “This is not how we brought you up. Why are you still hanging out with that girl?”

Layla fisted her hands, her eyes darting from her mother to her father. The couple looked so mad at her as if they would bury her alive.
