Chapter 65: Chapter 65
Before Layla could break out of her shock and even think about stopping the girl, Annie was already on her way to the Manager’s office.
The employees who had also watched in shock instantly continued gossiping out loud.
“This is not what I’m thinking, right?”
“Ms. Lin just entered the Manager’s office. What does this entail?”
“Is it that we’re in for a lot of drama? Maybe Ms. Lin hasn’t let go yet.”
“How sure are we that Ms. Wang- I mean, Mrs. Ju’an isn’t in trouble?”
“Well, I don’t want to miss this. Hehe, if Ms. Lin decides to take it out on the two, we can sure enjoy a great show.”
Except for Layla who was anxious on her desk, the remaining employees looked excited. Some of them had even left their cubicles. They tiptoed to the door to the Manager’s office and pressed their ears on the door to hear what was happening inside.
.
Inside the office, Priscilla’s mouth was opened in shock. The girl had been sitting on a couch, painting her nails when they heard a knock coming from the door. The last person Priscilla expected to enter the office was Annie.
Even Jason looked shocked from where he sat behind the desk.
Annie didn’t waste time taking in their expressions. Without even sparing them a smile, the girl simply walked forward and dropped the report in front of Jason. “In order to keep you up to speed about the recent happenings in the department, I have compiled this report from the past three months to today regarding the employees’ performance and the projects undertaken by the department.”
Jason opened his mouth but no words came out. He just stared at the girl, unblinking. No one could tell what the man was thinking, but Priscilla didn’t like the expression on his face.
After breaking out of her shock, she stood up and snatched the report. “What do you think you’re doing? Who gave you permission to come here? Ms. Lin, did you do this on purpose to disturb our peaceful moment?”
“Mrs. Ju’an.” Annie faced the girl. “Have you forgotten that I am the Assistant Manager? Normally, I should hand in this report. I’m quite confused by the word you said.”
“You.” Priscilla was losing her temper. “Great, Annie.”She let out a mocking laugh. “I know what you’re up to. You couldn’t wait for our return, right? You want to cause trouble and maybe find a way to snatch my husband. Well, bad news… Even if you beg on your knees, he will never look at you again.”
Jason watched the argument, the man did say anything. When Priscilla was done speaking, he just let out a sigh and said, “Since she only brought the report, leave her alone, Priscilla.”
The man didn’t look ready to support either of the girls. After recovering from his shock, he didn’t look at Annie but continued with what he had been doing.
Seeing that, Priscilla was more displeased. Annie was about to walk out of the office because she honestly didn’t see any reason to linger there. But Priscilla held her back by grabbing her arm.
“Annie, let me warn you. Don’t even think about trying anything funny. You had your chance with Jason, now it’s my time. I won’t guarantee you your position in this company if you want to pester us.”
“Who’s Jason?” Annie raised a brow, a cold smile creeping to her face.
Priscilla was thrown into speechlessness by her question. She didn’t get time to react as Annie shrugged her off and left the office.
“H-Honey, did you see that?” Priscilla pointed at the door.
Jason was also shocked, but he quickly composed himself. His eyes lingered on the door for a few seconds. Then he turned to Priscilla. “Don’t mind her. Please calm down.”
.
The employees ran back to their cubicles when Annie left the office. They hadn’t heard much of the conversation except her last words.
Wasn’t that brutal?
The employees exchanged knowing looks. They could no longer speak out loud, so they began gossiping with their eyes.
By asking that question, did it mean Ms. Lin was over the Manager already? How was that possible?
They had expected to hear things breaking from the office. They expected to hear both girls screaming and fighting each other. However, when Ms. Lin came out, she looked as good as the way she went inside.
Layla let out a huge sigh of relief. Even she was surprised to see Annie come out unscathed.
“You gave me a huge fright, Girl. What exactly happened in there?” Layla wanted to know. While the employees were eavesdropping on the door, she didn’t have the courage to stand up because she had been consumed by anxiety.
She was curious about why the employees looked flabbergasted as they hurried back to their cubicles though. Something must have happened in there, even though it wasn’t a fight.
“Layla, instead of discussing insignificant matters, you could use your time to do something beneficial.” Annie picked up her tablet and logged into an app. “How about you add the finishing touches to this character? Let’s see if your skills have improved.”
“Hmph! Boring.” Layla pursed her lips before taking the tablet. Clearly, Annie did not want to divulge anything. Must she always use work as an excuse to avoid discussion?
Secretly though, Layla was happy inside. At least, her friend managed not to get into trouble. Priscilla wasn’t a saint. The girl must have picked a fight, who knew?
There were only a few minutes left until lunch break, so Layla quickly finished working on the character. While Annie waited for her, most of the employees had left for the cafeteria.
“Damn! I’m famished.” Layla stood up and stretched her hands. She grabbed Annie’s hand, standing up with her, and both girls went inside the elevator.
Inside the elevator, Annie frowned a bit and held her stomach. “I’ll make a stop in the washroom. Could you order some food for me before I come down?”
“Well be fast. Otherwise, I’ll eat it all.” Layla laughed and they parted ways outside the elevator.
Annie walked into the washroom. Some minutes later, she was washing her hands in the sink when she heard footsteps from the door.
The girl neither stopped washing her hands nor appeared frightened. Carefully, she turned off the tap and retrieved a tissue.
The footstep stopped beside her and she let out an almost helpless sigh. “What is it? If you’re here to apologize, then stop wasting your time.”
