Chapter 36: Chapter 36

Andrew was still in his thoughts when his phone rang. He picked it up and looked at the display name. “Mr. Fang.”

“Good day, Mr. Lim, or is it evening over there?” The middle-aged man’s voice came. “Anyways, I called to inquire about your health. By this time, the medication should have finished. Have you seen any improvement?”

“I stopped taking them,” Andrew replied.

“Oh.” Mr. Fang sighed heavily. “That means they didn’t work.” The man sounded disappointed. Then that meant the illness was as he suspected.

“Have you seen the psychiatrist as I advised? There must be something else that’ll cure the insomnia.”

“I’ve already found it, Mr. Fang,” Andrew said.

“Ah, really? Then that’s good!” Mr. Fang sounded delighted. “I hope the Young Master will act fast in using the cure. As you know, this is not a matter to play with. You might not see any effect from now, but once delayed, it can cause detrimental consequences in the future.”

“Also.” Mr. Fang continued. “May I know what that cure is, Young Master? I can be able to offer some advice.”

Andrew was silent for some seconds. Telling Mr. Fang was the same as letting out the word to his family.

He wouldn’t be surprised if Mr. Fang was currently sitting with his grandfather. Although he had asked him to keep this a secret.

“Young Master, I’m listening.” Mr. Fang sounded too optimistic. “Tell me what that cure is. I can give you more recommendations.”

“Mr. Fang, good night,” Andrew said before hanging up.

Delaying it would have detrimental effects. Andrew could only have some minutes of sleep after watching her on the screen. He was only able to sleep for hours whenever she was in his arms.

.

At the other end, Mr. Fang let out another heavy sigh after the call was cut off. “Mr. Lim, I have disappointed you again. I couldn’t get a word out of the Young Master,” he said to the old man sitting across from him.

Mr. Fang shivered a bit from the sudden change in the man’s expression. It was scorching outside, but the atmosphere inside the room was as if they were inside a glacier.

“Mr. Fang, I know my grandson to be straightforward. If he’s hiding something, it must be that we won’t like it.”

“Yes– Yes, you are always right. The Young Master’s secret shouldn’t be something we can investigate willfully.”

“You are wrong.” The Old man chuckled. “Time will tell… Time will tell.”

Mr. Fang scratched his head. If there was one person he feared the most, it would be this old man who had a complex personality. His calmness meant an upcoming storm. When he smiled, be sure that something terrible was coming.

The old man was smiling right now. What exactly was the cure to the Young Master’s illness?

At MystiArt Productions.

The sky was very dark outside and almost all the employees had left. Because she had to make up for her absence, Annie worked all day on her unfinished projects after withdrawing her leave request.

By the time she was done working, there was no single employee left in the Arts Department. When she stepped out to the parking lot, the security men were nowhere to be found.

Finding it strange, she headed outside to stop a cab, ignoring the eery feeling in her mind. Her ears must be deceiving her, otherwise, why would she hear the sounds of footsteps when she was the only one in that area?

Because the company was a bit far from the main street, Annie had to walk a few distance before spotting a few taxis.

She held out her hand to stop one, but the heavy footsteps were now prominent behind her.

Annie’s eyes darted back. No one was standing behind her. But she wasn’t very sure. The place was a bit dark. Instead of waiting for the taxi to stop, she picked up her pace, heading to a more crowded area.

At this time of the night, the city was still bustling. Many cars were on the streets, most of them driving too fast because of the lack of traffic.

While Annie was hurrying, her thoughts were somehow disoriented. And all of a sudden, she found herself on another narrow street.

“Haha.” A deep voice came from the shadows. “Ms. Lin, aren’t you so smart? You just made my job easier.”

The guy was delighted. He could be sighted by someone on the street, but who would dare come to the alleyway?

“Who are you?” Annie turned around. “You even know my name.”

“If I tell you who I am, will Ms. Lin not have an advantage?” The guy laughed. “It is better you don’t know.”

“You have an ill intention, Mister. Even if you tell me, will that stop you from doing what you set your mind on?”

“You are right. Maybe I should tell you my name, but I won’t.” The guy laughed again.

His voice was getting closer. All this time, Annie had been accessing her surroundings while they spoke. And from the corner of her eye, street lights flickered in the distance. She wasn’t familiar with that neighborhood. That could be another main street.

“Why won’t you tell me? Are you afraid I might report you to the authorities?”

“You won’t even get the chance to, Ms. Lin. Tonight, you will know that–“

The guy stopped speaking. Where did she go? He looked around in confusion. He had been watching her from the shadows, yet, like a flash, she suddenly disappeared from his sight.

Ah! He was too early to compliment her smartness. She wanted to play the chasing game?

He looked to his right and laughed. She was too fast for her own good. She had almost reached the other street, even.

Haha!

Did she think she could outrun him? What an interesting prey.

Max let out another throaty laugh. With his eyes fixed on her back, he slowly retrieved an object from his pants pocket.

Even in the dark, the small silver knife glinted.
