Chapter 23: Chapter 23

At MystiArt Productions…

Assistant Jiang was on his way to the CEO’s office. His eyes were fixed on the tablet in his hands, deeply engrossed in reading the latest news on the company’s forum.

Once or twice, the assistant had almost tripped due to not paying attention to where he was going. However, he didn’t mind, and he would laugh loudly now and then.

Ah! Unlike in his Boss’s other companies, the employees in MystiArt Productions were quite entertaining. They were even more entertaining than the comic videos they produced.

Just now, the assistant was reading about an employee who was caught cheating with his department’s Manager’s wife. The Finance Department was like a boiling pot right now.

The Manager threatened to fire him… but what did the employee do? He slammed the evidence of that Manager cheating with another Manager’s wife on his face. And now, they were quite even.

Well, not that even. Because someone had secretly overhead them and leaked their secrets.

“Assistant Jiang,” one of the secretaries called out to him, interrupting him from reading the news further.

The assistant looked up from his tablet. More than ten secretaries were staring at him with smiles that appeared too friendly to him.

“Eh, what is it?” Somehow, the assistant felt uncomfortable from their gazes, and he sidestepped, maintaining a safe distance from the ladies.

“Aren’t you the most diligent assistant in MystiArt Productions?”

“As the CEO’s personal assistant, we look up to you, Assistant Jiang.”

“Huh?” The assistant blinked and he put more distance from the ladies. Recently, he had lost faith in women and his instincts told him they were up to no good.

“You seem to be avoiding us, Assistant Jiang.” One girl put on an offended look. “Do we look that scary?”

“Or is it that Assistant Jiang is a shy person?” Another girl giggled.

“Erm, what exactly do you want, Ladies?” Assistant Jiang asked. He wasn’t used to this kind of treatment and he couldn’t hide his discomfort.

“Hehe–Hehe.”

He didn’t know what was funny, but one of the girls started giggling like a witch from a Disney movie.

Ah, maybe the secretaries were possessed this morning. He’d rather take to his heels.

“Ah, Assistant Jiang, please wait.” As he was about to walk away, they quickly stopped him.

The girl seeing that this assistant was a bit strange, they decided to cut to the chase. The guy was supposed to be blushing from their flatterings, but he looked as if he’d seen a rat.

“Uhm, so we heard that the CEO is still single.” One girl approached him and whispered, “How true is that, Assistant Jiang?”

So it was about the CEO.

The assistant stared at their eager looks and he somehow sighed in relief. He’d almost believed the ladies were plotting against him.

Although his Boss’s relationship was a bit complicated, wouldn’t he be termed as single? After all, he was divorced before. And his engagement ended not long ago.

“Of course, the CEO is still single.” He nodded his head, hoping the ladies would leave him alone so he could go back to reading the news.

“Ah, really?” The secretaries looked delighted.

“In that case, Assistant Jiang, we’ll treat you better from now on.”

“Since we’re all working under the CEO, we can be friends, right, Assistant Jiang?”

Argh! These girls were so strange. Assistant Jiang couldn’t waste his time on them anymore and he hurried to the CEO’s office.

The man was sitting across his desk. As always, he looked a bit mad.

“Assistant Jiang!” His tone made the assistant tremble. “Seems like you’re getting too much liberty recently. I only gave you thirty minutes, why did you take an hour?”

“B–Boss, Mr. Lim.” The assistant quickly hid his tablet behind him. “Th–The traffic, it’s the traffic… you know the traffic in this city is hectic.”

“You!” Andrew glared at him. “Are you tired of your job? You can even lie now.”

Ah, if the assistant didn’t learn how to lie, how could he survive with his Boss? Nowadays, the man would always get angry at little things. He would even be mad at a single signature on a document.

“I am so sorry, Mr. Lim. I won’t repeat it, I promise.” The assistant apologized, giving him a fawning look.

Andrew simply scoffed and returned to his work. “Where are the documents?”

“They’re here.” The assistant hurried forward and brought some documents out of the bag hanging over his shoulder. “Congratulations, Mr. Lim. X District’s Apartment building is now in your full possession.”

Andrew snatched the documents and skimmed through them. “Assistant Jiang, don’t you think those residents are living too freely?”

Assistant Jiang gulped. He didn’t understand what his Boss meant, but he had no choice but to nod quickly. “You are right, Mr. Lim. You have keen eyes for details.”

“They are wasting too much money on unnecessary things, don’t you think?”

“Yes yes yes. Ah! People don’t appreciate money nowadays. Boss, you’re right again!” The assistant gave him a thumbs up, grinning foolishly.

However, the man only gave him another glare making Assistant Jiang more confused. He sighed heavily and brought a small card out of his pocket.

“Mr. Lim,” he said hesitantly. “I just found out about this meditation center. They offer the best aromatherapy in the city. Maybe… Maybe they can help chase away the insomnia.”

The assistant was trembling inside as he spoke. He didn’t like what his Boss was turning into. Due to lack of proper sleep, a once gentleman was now no different from a girl in her period.

If Andrew knew what his assistant was thinking, he would have flipped the desk in rage. However, he only took the card from the guy’s hand and snapped it into two.

“Get out!”

Both he and the Assistant knew the only cure for his insomnia. Wasn’t it wasting time to look for some cure that was not going to work?

Andrew was fed up with his assistant acting stupid. While the assistant was fed up with his Boss being a ticking time bomb.
