Chapter 131: Chapter 131

“Urm, Pretty Ann, Can we not talk about Dylan? We’re having our romantic moment, it is wrong to bring other people up, right?” After hesitating for some minutes, Chen scratched his head and laughed nervously.

Annie narrowed her eyes. “Xiao Chen.” She stared straight at him. “Tell me the truth. Do you want us to become enemies?”

“Ahhh! Pretty Ann, please don’t say that.” The boy looked frightened. “We can’t become enemies? Losing you is like losing my life.”

He lowered his head in defeat and slowly looked up. “I, Master Chen, don’t go back on my words. I made a deal with Dylan. But for you, Pretty Ann, I can go against anyone.”

“You’re going to tell me what’s going on,” Annie said.

“Come on, put on a smile. Yes. Yes. I’ll tell you the truth,” Chen agreed. “You must promise me first before I do that, Pretty Ann.”

“What promise?”

“That Dylan mustn’t know. I, Master Chen, never leaked anyone’s secret. If Dylan knows about it, he’s going to spread it to the neighborhood and that will make me lose face.”

“Alright, Chen… Just tell me.”

“And one more thing, Pretty Ann…”

“Ahhh! Little Chen!”

He didn’t get to finish his words when a loud exclamation came from the stairs. Dylan stared at the pair in horror. “Little Chen! You’re unreliable. What do you want to tell my Big Sis?”

Annie glanced over her shoulder and looked at the frightful guy. Dylan’s eyes were on Chen and he looked mad.

And Chen looked agitated. He didn’t want to lose face, but the guy had caught him red-handed, about to spill his secret.

“I was only confessing my love for Pretty Ann! What did you think we were talking about!” Little Chen yelled back.

Dylan didn’t believe him. He rushed down the stairs in fright and stopped in front of Annie. “Big Sis, when did you come? Why are you wasting your time on this boy? You must be exhausted, let’s go to the apartment.”

“You!” Chen pointed a shaking finger at him. “Pretty Ann is not wasting her time, we’re having a good time together. Dylan, if you say any stupid word, I won’t hesitate to-“

“Ah! Little Chen, you’re the most generous and reliable. Later on, when we celebrate Big Sis’s promotion, I’ll give you an award for the most trustworthy person in X District.”

“Are you telling the truth?” One could tell the boy valued his face a lot. Such an award would only elevate his status, earning him more respect from people.

“Don’t go back on your words, Dylan.” He stared at the guy seriously. “Pretty Ann, when I get the award, I’ll dedicate it to both of us.”

“Xiao Chen, come back-“

In a flash, Chen dashed down the stairs and Annie’s voice faded in the air. She put on an exasperated look and stared at Dylan.

“You didn’t want Chen to tell me anything. I presume you are going to say it yourself.”

“Huh?” Dylan gave her a confused look. “What are you talking about, Big Sis?”

“Stop pretending. Tell me what’s going on with you, Dylan? Your absence has become frequent. I’m not a baby and Ma is not a fool. You can tell us what’s happening.”

“You worry too much, Big Sis.” Dylan looked exasperated as well. “I told you I was hanging out with my buddies. This semester is hard, and I’m doing my best to ace all my studies.”

“Big Sis,” he went on. “I promise you I’m fine. You and Mum should put your minds at ease. If I ace my studies, I’ll graduate with flying colors. With that, I’ll get a stable job and take care of you and Mum.”

He looked confident when he spoke. Well, Annie didn’t believe him. If it was something nice, he wouldn’t be against Chen letting anyone know.

“Dylan, I’ll be frank. If you get into trouble, even I will be mad at you.”

“I won’t get into any trouble, Big Sis.” Dylan smiled at her. “Hey, you women worry too much. Let’s go to the apartment. Mum gave me some weird ingredients to put together, I’m not sure if I got it right.”

He didn’t wait for Annie to resume walking, and pulled her up the stairs by gently circling his arm around hers.

“By the way, Big Sis. Mum is also acting a bit strange, have you noticed that?”

“Aren’t you also acting strange, Dylan?”

“Let’s forget about me.” Dylan wanted to groan. He could sense his sister’s displeasure and knew she was still ready to interrogate him.

“Big Sis, I’m serious. I’ve also overheard Mum speaking frequently about getting you married. Why is she so desperate?”

“It’s your fault.” They entered the apartment and Annie headed to the kitchen. “If you haven’t been so troublesome, Dylan, Mum wouldn’t think about that.”

“Eh?” Dylan didn’t think it was completely his fault. “Big Sis, I might not be responsible now, but I’m doing my best. Don’t mind Mum, I think she’s just desperate to get a son-in-law after Mrs. Tan’s daughter’s wedding was announced.”

Annie ignored him and went on to arrange the ingredients.

“Before I forget.” Dylan came to her side, putting on a playful grin. “Don’t you have a boyfriend? That man who’s living with you…”

“Shut up.” Annie quickly shut him with a glare before he spoke further.

“Ha! I get it. I get it.” Sensing his sister’s irritation, Dylan raised both hands in the air forming a peaceful gesture. “Big Sis, you don’t want to talk about him. You want to enjoy life first, right? After getting ditched the last time, you don’t want to give your heart out easily again.”

And here he was thinking that his sister was too lame. Dylan never knew she could be mischievous.

“Your secret is safe with me.” He made a gesture of sealing his lips. “What I ask in return is, you have to convince Mum not to worry about me. Also, I want you to stop interrogating.”

“Don’t get into any trouble, Dylan,” Annie repeated her warning.

“Big Sis, you’re the best. I won’t fall into trouble, and I want to assure you that I won’t leave the apartment building anymore. I’ve promised Mum too. So you don’t need to worry.”
