Chapter 52: Chapter 52

CHAPTER 52

SARA

“Did you know Christian came here?” Ariel said to Sara who removed her reading glasses, and proceeded to give her a stupid look.

“What do you mean?” She asked not believing her ears.

“You heard me right. Christian came here today. Do you even know the worst part?” She asked Sara.

“No, I don’t. What’s that?” Sara asked her curiosity already piqued.

“I heard about it from Miranda and Tess.”

“What!” Sara questioned, standing up from her little bunk bed, and quickly reaching for her phone.

“Calm down.” Ariel said to her with a chuckle and then asked, “What the hell do you think you want to do?”

“Do?” Sara questioned eyebrows raised, “Yes, what do you intend doing with your phone?”

“Call him of course. What did he come to do at the orphanage, without informing me.”

“Think this through, Christian never comes to the shelter without letting you know. So if he came now, without letting you, then he wanted to do whatever he wanted to do without disturbance.”

“So are you calling me a disturbance? Anyways I don’t care what you think. I’m going to call Christian now.”

Without wasting any time, she called Christian just like she had promised.

Moving to a quieter spot in the room, and grateful that she and Ariel were the only ones in the hostel at that moment, she cleared her throat and waited for him to pick.

After 3 successive rings, without him picking up, Sara felt like throwing the already damaged phone on the floor, but she thought against it.

Just as she was about giving up, the phone vibrated with an incoming message from Christian.

Opening the sms, she read what he had wrote, and according to him, he was busy at that moment and that ge would make sure he called her later that night.

She wanted to be angry, this was unlike him, but she was just going to let it slide for the sake of her sanity.

At the moment, her head was currently spinning, with different thoughts.

‘Why had he come to the orphanage?’

She was tempted to call his mom, and ask her if she knew that Christian has been to the shelter discreetly, but it was as if she was already intruding in his privacy.

“Did you get to him? Are you guys done talking? What did he say? Why was he here?” Ariel started asking her different questions, Sara didn’t even know where to begin from.

Cutting the whole thing short, she summarized everything as she answered, “I didn’t get to him. We didn’t talk, his phone was not going through or it was ringing and he wasn’t picking at all. He just messaged me now, saying he’s busy and that he would call later at night.”

“Oh then, that’s better. At least you both would have time to discuss and also do that itty bitty love thing you guys do, whenever you’re on the phone together.” Arial said, rolling her eyebrows.

“Uh! What itty bitty love thing?” Sara asked with a chuckle, and scoffing Ariel answered, climbing up her bunk bed, “Oh please. You think I don’t look at you to get your expression whenever you’re talking to Christian. Maybe soon I’ll get a picture of you, when you’re talking to him, you need to see how you look like when talking to him.”

“I don’t have time for you today Ariel. Care to follow me to the garden, I need to get some school work done.” Sara asked effectively cutting of the conversation about Christian.

“No, you go on ahead. I need some sleep. I’ve been up and about today, I need to rest.”

“Okay then, see you.” Sara said and without a response, she took her hand bag and left the room.

CHRISTIAN

He was having a really hectic day.

After coming back from the shelter, where surprisingly everything had gone smoothly he had rushed down here.

Even though Mrs Patrick, the beautiful and polite head matron of the orphanage had not given them any solid answer approving Sara’s leave, she had given them a positive response and had told them that she would discuss the matter with the rest of the matrons and others in charge of the orphanage, and that she would get back to them.

According to her, what they were asking for was something that was not allowed, but she would try to help them as much as possible.

He was optimistic.

Now though he was at the community center, taking a passport.

He needed to process the documents for his imminent leave to Seattle.

That’s why he had not even been able to pick Sara’s call when she had called earlier, and he was definitely going to make it up to her.

He was going to make it up to his baby.

All these things he was doing now, was to make their life better.

“Mr Smith.” The receptionist called and he looked up with a smile and answered, “Yes ma’am.”

“You can come in for your passport now. Is there any other thing I can help you do? Amy document you need to photocopy?” She asked him politely.

“No ma’am.” He answered again with a smile.

Since he had come, standing in line with the rest of the people who had come to have one or two things done for him, this particular woman or was it receptionist was making things very easy for him.

He didn’t know if she was checking him out, or if she has ulterior motives, one thing Christian knew was that when he came out from the passport processing office, he would look for her and get her number.

“Okay you may go in then.” She said to him again and with a nod he entered the office.

ARIEL

As soon as Sara left the room, her phone rang.

Looking at the screen she saw that it was Daniel, and immediately she broke into a wide grin.

She didn’t even know why she was smiling, or why she was having this flutterings inside her belly.

Was she beginning to actually feel something for him?

Besides why was he calling her now? She thought to herself.

Not wanting to disturb her thoughts, anymore she quickly answered the call.

At first there was only silence, and not wanting to be the first one to say anything, she waited patiently for him to say something to her.

Finally, she heard him clearing his throat, “Hey Ariel, good day.”

“Good day to you too Daniel.”

“Um, I was wondering I don’t know if you’re free, I would like to take you on a date this weekend.” He blurted out.

Surprised, Ariel removed her phone from here ears and looked at the screen to make sure it was Daniel talking to her.

“Huh?”

“Guess, I was to forward right? I’m nervous and…”

She cut him off, “Of course you’re nervous. It’s all over your speech. You didn’t even care to ask how I was doing? How I’m faring and if I’m having a good or bad day, you just attacked me with your date talks. Like seriously?” She questioned him.

“I’m really sorry, it’s just… it’s just that…” He trailed of again.

“I get it. I understand, don’t stress yourself again. About the date, I’ll think about it and get back to you okay.” She said, and not even waiting for his response she cut the call.

She knew what she was doing.

She was playing hard to get.

She wanted to suffer him a bit, before she finally accepted to fully date him.

If he really wanted her, he was going to work hard for it.
