Chapter 39: Chapter 39

CHAPTER 39

It was midnight already and yet she hadn't called him yet.

Christian paced round his room, walking from the window back to his bed, he was restless. He was worried about her and at the same time he kept thinking of how he was going to break this news to her.

It was going to be a big strain on their relationship, and in as much as he wanted to delay this news, he also wanted to tell her and get it over and done with.

When he had arrived home earlier today, he had dropped the letter on the table, and had told his mom to read it.

She had seemed shocked at first, confused at the contents and had told him to explain well, which he had sat down and patiently did.

Seeking her advice, she had soothingly patted his back and had agreed with his decision to tell Sara, claiming that delaying the news was not going to get him or her anywhere. Nodding he had agreed with her, and now here he was.

Deciding to call her as he was tired if waiting he went to his call log, but before he could punch her number his phone beeped and lo and behold, she was the one.

Clearing his throat, he pressed the answer button and her lovely voice came through.

"Christian...." She began and he interrupted her, "Sara mine, what took you so long?" He asked her, wanting to know the reason as it had been bothering him ever since.

"Heyi, you didn't even allow me to greet you, see how you just attacked me." She said laughing silently and he smiled, he could imagine her rolling her eyes at him and he smiled wider.

"Okay, okay, sorry. You know I was just worried about you, I thought you have already forgotten, I was trying to call you just now and your call came through." Christian said, finally sitting on his bed, and staring straight at his bedroom window, feeling the cold night breeze softly.

"Yeah right, I didn't forget, actually I was actually busy today you know. Should I tell you how my day went?" She asked him and he chuckled and muttered an hmmmmn and she continued.

"Well, you know I'm in suspension right, caused by that spiteful bitch." She began and he laughed.

"What's funny?" She asked.

"Well, it's just the way you sounded when you said 'that spiteful bitch', like an angry bird. You must really hate this girl, I'll love to meet her one day you know, meet the girl who's been giving my girl problems."

"Yeah, she's really giving me problems, so... Today was sanitary day, like when you sent that message earlier today, we were in the hall receiving girly lecturers right. After that we began our routine clean-up and since I was on punishment, mine was much, are you listening?"

Sighing and breathing heavily, still thinking of how he was going to break the news to her, he answered stammering, "Yeah, yeah of course. Just go, go on."

"Ok then, I was given lots of laundries to do, corridors and cobwebs to clear and sweep, rooms to vacuum and flit with insecticides, I also weeded some grasses you know, infact, to cut the long story short, today was a very hectic day for me." She kept on babbling and Christian just kept on humming to her talks.

"Are you really listening to me, what's going on with you this night, I can already sense that something's wrong, because it's unlike you to keep quiet when I'm talking."

Sighing loudly, he confirmed her assumption by replying.

"Yes, Sara mine, there's something I want to tell you."

Sara began thinking of this mysterious thing that had held Christian back from answering all her incessant chatters.

Right from when they had began speaking, she had sensed something was off with him, and when she had began telling him about her day and he had just kept quiet, she knew in her heart that there was something seriously wrong and going on with him.

Her thoughts wavering, she refused to habour the thought that he wanted to break up with her, clearing her throat she spoke, "Go on, Christian, I'm listening."

"Okay, well it's about the new job I just got.," He said and she sighed so loudly in relief, that she was sure he could hear her from his end.

"Why did you sigh like that?" He asked her chuckling and she answered shutting him off, "You really don't want to know, so.... continue."

"So actually you know I'm supposed to begin work in two weeks time." He said and she hummed in agreement, "Well I got a letter from them today, and there's a big problem which is going to affect us very well."

"I don't understand you, how is it going to affect us, I don't get, do you mean our relationship, do you want to break up with me?" She asked the question sounding bitter in her mouth.

"No, don't get this all twisted ok, who's talking of anyone breaking up here, it's nothing of that sort love." He replied sneezing lightly.

"Oh, so what is it, just tell me, I'm tired of this suspense okay."

"Well, I'm being transferred to another branch, actually the one at Seattle, and this one actually comes with a lot of benefit, like feeding, housing, clothing allowances and even a very good insurance worker's policy." She heard him say, she still couldn't get what he was trying so desperately not to tell her already, and her thoughts kept running in circles.

"Wow, that's good news for you, I mean think of all these amazing opportunities and benefits just for you, your mom must be so happy and proud of you.", "Oh of course she is." She could feel him smiling at the other end.

"So how does this affects us, like I still don't understand what you are trying to say." She asked him and he finally dropped the bombshell.

********

"I'll be moving to Seattle."

Christian couldn't bear the silence that lingered after he had said this, looking at his cell to see if she was still on the line, he waited for her response, but still yet he got nothing.

"Did you hear me?" He asked her and he only got a whimper at the other end, and he became worried, was she crying? What was going on with her over there? He had not even finished relaying his plans to her yet and she was crying. Damn!

"Sara, are you crying?" He asked afraid of her response, "Christian, you are leaving me right?" She said very slowly and calmly.

"No I'm not, I can't leave you, I want you to come with me." He said in a rush and the burden he had been nursing in his chest slowly went away like smoke.

"I should come with you to Seattle, and leave the shelter, you know I can't leave till I'm 18, are you going there with your mom and siblings?" She asked him and he muttered a slow yes.

"Oh my, Christian, this is going to be a big problem for us, and you are leaving in two weeks time right, Seattle is so far, God, there's no way we can see even on weekends, the transport fare is very expensive." She said sighing and Christian replied.

"I don't leave till two months time, so we have all the time in the world to prepare, I'm sure we can come up with something that will suit you, I mean us, I can go talk to your head matron, or my mom you know." He said ranting sharply.

"It's not that easy, the process is too long and it might even delay you." She said, voice filled with worry.

"Don't stress yourself please, it's getting very late already, I think you need to go rest okay my love." Christian said, he didn't want to continue this conversation and have her stressing herself again.

"Yeah right, we'll talk later."

"Goodnight, I love you."

"I love you more." He answered and cut of the call.
