Chapter 48: Chapter 48

[Chain quest#2 has finished. You have leveled up 36->40. You have gained a Fruit of Life...due to the modifier, Absorber, 100X reward is being prepared....calculating new reward.]

[You have gained 100 Fruit of Life. User gains a permanent stat/levels (user’s choice). Can only be used 5 times every 50 levels]

’W-What a cheat item. He cannot believe such a cheat item is a reward.’

Cane could not help but marvel at his luck as he looked at his inventory. Leveling up stats was one of the hardest things to do in this game. There were not many items that raised stats permanently.

And even when there were items, they had specific locks one had about usage.

Cane wanted to use the item immediately on his strength and intelligence so that he could fight better. But he decided to give it some more thought.

"Oh wow-! That’s a pretty staff. It looks powerful as well. Cane, do you mind if I try it out?"

Ai asked as she waved her new staff around. It seemed as if she had gotten a reward as well.

It was not rare for NPCs to get a reward for a quest, either. It was to create immersion in the game, and it would be good for Ai to get a feel of her weapon as well.

So Cane nodded as a sign for her to go ahead and use her weapon...only for Ai to point her weapon directly at him.

"Hey, wait-! We can talk about it-"

Cane moved to the right while Ai shot at the left. Her blast was powerful and blew the tree behind Cane to pieces.

[Shura: Holy shit-! THAT’S SOME POWER.]

[KingCrimson: That’s a level 1 weapon? What kind of weapon is that? I don’t think I have ever seen such a weapon before.] The rıghtful source is NoveI-Fire.ɴet

[BugControl: Me neither...but now I want one as well...]

The chat talked about the weapon while Cane clutched his heart. He had almost lost his head there...

"I am sorry...I did not mean to attack you . I just wanted to get a feel for the weapon and...I am so sorry."

Ai quickly apologized as she waved her staff around. Cane decided to open the system to check up on the staff.

[Weapon name: Shard of Light (SS). Class: None (Recommended: Mage)]

[A weapon left behind by a god when they left the world. The wielder gains the god’s power when they use it.]

[All stats increase by 10 as long as the weapon is equipped. Level requirement to equip: None (level 100+ recommended because the weapon can lose control below that)]

The warning about this weapon was rather strict, but the most important part was that it was a generic weapon and also an SS weapon at that.

As soon as Cane announced this, the chat went wild.

[Shura: No way-! There is no way this is true.]

[ChaosLover69: That was a level 1 weapon? Holy hell-! Can I buy it?]

[No#1Player: The weapon owner is an NPC. Do you think we can get it from her if we kill her? But NPC don’t drop anything when they die.]

[Shura: Idiot. If you kill an NPC, then not only do you not get a weapon, but you also risk getting those modifiers...no offense to you, Cane...]

The chat talked among themselves, but the end result was the same — they all wanted Ai to sell her weapon to them or find a way to get it from her.

Because this was displayed on a stream, soon the whole world would know about this.

’I need to hurry up with the guild making. He does not think he will be able to keep a lot of people away for much longer.’

With Cane’s kill-on-sight status and Ai’s weapon, they had two targets on their heads now.

"Cane, is something wrong with this weapon? Do you...not want me to have it?"

Ai asked as she put her weapon away in...whatever space NPCs put their stuff in. Cane sighed in relief as he saw the staff out of his sight.

"No, it’s fine. You and your weapon are not the problem, everyone else is...anyway, if anyone asks you to trade your staff or such, do not agree and tell them that you don’t want to, alright?"

Cane asked her, and Ai nodded.

"Got it. I will not trade it for anything."

Ai agreed with a smile on her face, and it made her look far too innocent. Even the chat was beginning to feel bad.

[Heerafan: Maybe we should leave Ai alone. She’s too cute and innocent for us to rob her....]

Of course, these were just empty words. If someone were to get a chance to grab an SS weapon, they would take it.

"Alright, that’s it for now. I will see you all later. Make sure you come and watch me. Bye."

Cane officially ended the stream, and the system message popped up.

[Chain quest #3 - The guidance of the God. Please Return to the chief and tell him about the box. Ask for his blessing and information on the journey ahead. Level requirement (lv50)]

The system message appeared all of a sudden, and Cane felt startled.

"So, what are we going to do now?"

Ai asked as she looked at Cane. Cane gave her a reassuring smile before he told her their next step.

"Let’s return to the village and the chief for now. We can ask him about this box, and...other things. Then I need to go back and visit home for a while. I will pick you up in a day or two."

Cane waited for Ai to pout and tell him not to go, but her face remained blank. She continued looking at him for a whole minute before her eyes widened just a little.

Then, she blinked, and her face formed a pout.

"That is not fair. Do you truly have to go back?"

Ai asked, and Cane sighed before giving her a tired look.

"Unfortunately, I have taxes to pay and other stuff that cannot be avoided. Life is a mess right now. But I’ll be back soon."
