Chapter 42: Chapter 42

"So, how was your night? Did you have a nice time with each other?"

The owner asked us as he wiggled his eyebrows in a disgusting manner. Cane was feeling a little uncomfortable at how invested the owner of the inn looked in his relationship with Ai.

"It is none of your business, old man. Ai, we will be leaving now."

Cane told the owner and the man just pouted as he watched them leave. Ai looked back at the owner before his eyes flashed gold.

The owner who had been left behind suddenly looked at the money on the counter and his eyes widened.

"Huh-! 8 gold coins? Did a party stay with us or something? Why can’t I remember. Oh well, I better go and clean all the rooms. But why can’t I recall if someone rented the whole inn for a week?"

He questioned as he walked upstairs.

But only one room had been used. Things did not make sense to him but he decided to see it as a stroke of luck and just go with the flow.

Meanwhile, Cane and Ai entered the ruins of Alzar before Cane started his stream.

"Hello everyone. We are finally here- the ruins of Alzar. From here on, it will be a new adventure for us."

Cane told the audience and messages began to flash across his screen.

[HaremKingXXX: Welcome back, you poor soul.]

[Shura: Do you even realize how badly you got ripped off? We didn’t tell you because it was entertaining.]

[ClashLord: This lion thinks you should have done a little more online research on the inn prices in the game.]

Hundreds of messages flashed across Cane’s screen in a matter of minutes. It would have been overwhelming if he had not gotten used to speed-reading.

"Tsk, so that inn was a scam after all. Darn it. I knew something was fishy with the price and that man insisting for us to stay a second day. Darn it-! Should I go and get my money back?"

Cane felt annoyed that he had been scammed so easily. But he was not as angry as anyone else would have been.

Him getting scammed was good content. It kept people talking about him in the long run.

As for the money he lost...well, that was not even a problem. His reward system was a cheat anyway. It would just allow him to earn more in no time.

’I better keep my mouth shut about that reward. I don’t want the audience to lose interest in me or anything.’

"Cane, are we going back? Did...something happen?"

Ai asked while tilting her head to her side. She looked too excited as she had an almost bounce in her steps. Cane could only shake his head as he watched her walk around.

"There is no time to go back. Let’s head in the ruins first and take care of the quest first."

Cane told Ai to take her mind off the conversation. Ai followed his lead and ran ahead.

"Sure, I got it. Hurry up and come after me."

She told Cane and he followed after her.

[Bugcontrol: So, how much do you want to bet that Cane will forget all about it by the end?]

Well, the odds of this bet were 100%. Mainly because he did not care about that lost money anyway.

He entered the ruins and the day suddenly turned dark. Light only shined through small holes, and there was barely enough to see their steps.

"This place feels so dark and gloomy. I almost do not want to step forward."

Ai told Cane as she slowly walked by his side. Her eyes kept looking around for any signs of danger. But Cane doubted she would be able to find much.

"Focus, and look forward. The more you allow your mind to wander, the more distracted you will become."

Cane told Ai and she just pouted. The first temple was silent and the only sudden sound was the system notification.

[Quest- the Ruins of Alzar has started. Caution: once you enter the trial area, you won’t be able to exit it until you have finished the ruins. Are you willing to risk your life?]

The system asked and Cane sighed at the message.

He had no idea why it felt so ominous to him. There was even a small glitchy pattern in the screen, which he had never seen before.

"What the hell is this-"

He questioned and tried to reach out to touch that glitchy part. However, the system took his touch as confirmation.

[You have accepted the mission. Additional Mission: Keep Ai safe and bring her out alive. Reward: continuation of her quest. Failure: ???]

[System Error: Cannot cumpu#@te #@!#$]

"Alright, I got it. I will look after Ai." The source of thɪs content is novel⁂fire.net

Cane told the system, and the system stopped glitching, almost as if it was sentient. He turned to look at Ai, who looked both curious and a little scared.

"Let’s head in, Ai...is something wrong?"

Cane asked and Ai quickly flushed and looked at him.

"Something wrong? ...No, nothing is wrong. Everything is perfect, just as it should be. I just...never mind."

Ai looked a little guilty when she told Cane this but she quickly went back to her normal self. They both entered the ruins and Cane lost his last chance to turn back and head to safety.

The temple welcomed them both by shining and the light looked beautiful.

[Shura: Oh wow-! This place looks so beautiful.]

[100%Completion: Be careful. The more beautiful a place is, the worse it is in terms of safety. You might face too much trouble soon.]

As if manifesting trouble, as soon as that message passed, the shadows began to merge around the room, forming a solid form. The monster rushed toward Cane and Ai and Cane pulled Ai back before he shot at the monster.

The monster shook off those shots and Cane quickly threw a flash bomb seconds after he covered Ai’s eyes.

’Tsk, this is going to be trouble. I need to get Ai to safety before I can take on that monster.’
