Chapter 28: Chapter 28

’Ah fuck-! How did I not remember who this NPC was? Has he started to lose his memory or something?’

Cane asked himself as he clutched the side of the boat. The sudden turn the boat made caused him to lose his balance.

He was not the only one having trouble standing up. The journalist already looked half-dead.

"Take a left...not that left..."

Cane somehow let out as he clutched his stomach. Beside him, his chat was going wild with laughing emojis.

[KuruKura: Oh yeah-! I remember this NPC...isn’t he the captain of the Century Royal Guards...you know, the one with a terrible sense of direction.]

[HaremKingXXX: Oh yeah-! I know of him. Well, this serves Cane just right.]

Cane recognized the NPC as soon as he saw the message and also recalled the reason he had not remembered until now.

He had only undertaken one quest with Lloyd, but that one quest had ended up scaring him badly enough to never want to see this NPC again.

The only thing Cane recalled of that quest during the beta was that it had been an expedition. He hoped that quest had been scrapped from the final testing because of his constant complaints.

"Ugh...what’s life? Should I end it now? No wait...! I am so close to the end. I cannot give up now-ughhh!"

The man went down quickly, and Cane was the only one left to guide the NPC around.

"Just...take one right and stop...we’re here."

Cane somehow managed to keep himself upright and make the NPC stop. From what he could recall and from the people’s chat messages, the NPC’s name was Lloyd.

The man stopped as soon as he was done following orders, and he looked at Cane for the next step. Cane gave himself a whole minute before he forced himself to stand on his shaky legs.

"Alright, get the diving gear ready. We need to head down now. Journalist Paul, are you alright? Can you stand up?"

"Huh-! I’m fine. Are we there already?"

The journalist NPC suddenly revived as if he had been shocked. He suddenly looked excited and looked around, only to be disappointed to see no land in sight.

"Eh-! We’re still in water? Right-! You did tell us that we needed to go underwater."

The journalist recalled as he stood up. The thought of reaching the end made him react much faster.

Cane was all but dragged by the journalist toward the water, and he barely got any time to wear his gear before they jumped in.

The place on the map marked it as a peaceful spot—but only as long as one stayed out of the water. There was no way to know what lay beneath those turbulent waves.

Still, for the sake of the quest, Cane needed to brave those waters and reach the depths.

"Is everyone ready? Then, let’s dive in."

Cane allowed Lloyd to head in first. The strongest NPC was going to be their core strength and also the most likely target of any monsters.

The journalist went next, his eyes shining, and Cane took the rear.

It might look like the worst position to be in, but he also had the highest chance to get away in case they got attacked.

They did not have to swim down much before the first monster attacked. Read complete versıon only at n0velfire.net

Cane took out his gun and fired a few shots in the opposite direction they were in. The waves successfully distracted the monster, and it went after the false signal.

Cane signaled to the other two, who had just gotten ready to attack the monster as well. They all slowly swam deeper when the pressure suddenly changed around them.

A huge mouth opened right beneath them and tried to grab the journalist. Cane grabbed Paul’s hand before he fired off a strong shot to propel the pair away from danger.

Thus, the monster was not able to grab any of them, and Lloyd used that opportunity to hunt the monster down.

That was the worst encounter they had before they landed. Cane had not expected any exceptional danger to come after them at such low levels of the game either.

Once their feet touched the solid ground, the journalist tried to open his equipment, but Cane stopped him. He took out a match to test the air around them.

He allowed the others to open their helmets only once it was safe to do so.

"Phew...we made it. I thought we were goners. But...what is this place? Based on where we landed, this is a little far away from the settlement, right?"

Paul asked as he looked around the cave.

Cane looked at the map he had as well, but according to the map, the cave was right adjacent to the Louve.

The only explanation behind such a thing happening was that it was magic. The whole place was made up of magic.

It was not really a disappointing feeling to have. Magic had been a foundation of this game world for a long time.

"Sir Paul, are you sure it is alright for us to move around? Should we not contact the adventurer’s guild and tell them about this place? That would be the safest option for us."

Lloyd brought up an important point that even Cane had forgotten about—the adventurer’s guild. Usually, all new quests needed to be reported to the guild.

But that was for the players who were related and registered with the guild. Cane was a different case because he was not registered with the adventurer’s guild.

"Hssss, don’t bring those demons up. Every time I find something interesting, they find a way to mess it up. Ugh, are you both associated with them?"

The journalist asked, and Cane immediately saw an opportunity.

"I am not with the adventurer’s guild. If we tell them that this was my commission, there is nothing they can do to interfere in this matter."

Cane’s words made Paul’s eyes shine, and the journalist shook his hand with an evil glint in his eyes.

"Excellent. This is the most excellent news I have heard until now."
